Passion in your eyes

I must apologize for the delayed publication of this poem. I wrote this poem in class (after in-class discussion) while my students were also writing their poems on the theme: patriotism (towards their country: Taiwan)

PASSION IN YOUR EYES

Oh, you look at me with fear in your eyes
Begging me to change my mind
   about the task you need to turn in on time
White sheet of paper is all you see
Your brain is empty
Oh, so you think
Yet give yourself some time
      to feel about the theme: your country, your people, about you- being Taiwanese
Think with your heart
   not with your head
This is the time to feel proud about who you are now
    not what you were back then
This is the time to look at the world
    with your head up
courage souring high
So what are you going to write?
Your passion
The passion I see in your eyes.
